AEC-BOX-89 Literature
BRIEF: This device provides a simple parallel machine control interface for modern "Sony protocol" serial remote VTRs, which include most broadcast quality Sony, Hitachi, JVC, and Panasonic tape machines. The parallel control inputs can be driven by pushbuttons, relay closures to ground, logic gates, or machine control systems. Machine status tally outputs are also provided.

These units are no longer available.

AEC-BOX-89 PARALLEL ADAPTER
FOR SERIAL REMOTE VTRs
'AEC-BOX-89' - Simple Parallel Control of Serial Remote VTRs

The AEC-BOX-89 provides a simple parallel machine control interface for modern "Sony protocol" serial remote VTRs, which include most broadcast quality Sony, Hitachi, JVC, and Panasonic tape machines. The parallel control inputs can be driven by pushbuttons, relay closures to ground, logic gates, or machine control systems. Machine status tally outputs are also provided.

Only simple and basic MACHINE CONTROL functions are supported. This box cannot be used as an edit controller.

The AEC-BOX-89 is small (modem sized), rugged (all metal), and attractive. For both reliability and convenience, an internal power supply is used, for which 115VAC/230VAC is required, and which is Hi-Pot tested for your (and our) safety.

Installation is very easy. First plug our box into a suitable voltage AC power outlet, and connect the 9-pin ESbus/RS422 cable we supply between our box and the VTR to be controlled. Then wire your parallel CONTROL lines to the appropriate pins on our box's parallel port. You may also make use of our box's TALLY output pins if desired.

There is a 15-day money back (less shipping) guarantee on this product if it fails to perform to your satisfaction.

If your application requires something a little different from what you see here, please give us a call. This box (and its software) has been designed with customization in mind. Since we are a small company, we can (usually) respond quickly to your particular needs, and at a reasonable price.

Please call us at 1-800-782-2321, or at the number above, if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Tracey Ruesch, President

VTR REQUIREMENTS

The VTR being controlled must have a broadcast industry standard 9-pin "Sony protocol" RS422 serial interface port, and the "serial remote" port must be enabled from the VTR's front panel.

OPERATIONAL NOTES

As soon as one of the CONTROL input lines is pulled to ground via a pushbutton switch, relay, open collector, or logic gate, the corresponding serial machine control message is transmitted to the VTR. If more than one line is held low at the same time, only the highest priority line is accepted (see manual).

The eight TALLY outputs at all times indicate the operational state of the tape machine being controlled. Only one tally output line is pulled low at any given time. These tally output lines may be used to drive external logic gates or LED displays. A +5V current limited (100mA) power supply output is provided for driving external LED's and optoisolators.

SPECIAL "EAVESDROP" MODE

By changing one DIP switch inside the AEC-BOX-89, it can be made to eavesdrop (listen only) to the RS422 data line and provide tally outputs which reflect the VTR's status. For proper operation, this requires a separate controller, such as an edit controller, which continuously inquires about the VTR's status.
